What is the worship service like at FCC?

Worship services at FCC are relaxed, and although we tend to follow a historic pattern of church liturgy and often sing traditional hymns, we enjoy weaving in contemporary expressions of liturgy, music, and the arts in our worship. Our services are designed to invite a comfortable and meaningful experience.

All forms of dress are present each week, from very casual to dressy, and all are welcomed. The presence of children, with their movements and voices, is both a precious sign of God’s Kingdom in our midst and a gift to us all. During the worship service, the liturgy and lyrics are projected on the front of the sanctuary to help all engage with the message, and as a congregation we seek to grow and welcome varying expressions of worship, learning styles and abilities.

What time is Worship?

The musical prelude begins at 10:10 am on Sunday morning, and our congregation enjoys this time of prayerful meditation as an integral part of our worship experience. The announcements and worship begin at 10:15 am, and the service lasts approximately 45 minutes. You may come early or stay longer to chat with others in this community, or come and go as you need to.

How can I worship online?

We live-stream our Sunday worship services on Facebook and YouTube, so you can join us in Spirit at the same time as we gather in person. Services remain available to watch (or rewatch) at another time, if that is more convenient.

What should I wear?

All forms of dress are present each week, from very casual to dressy, as each person wishes to express themselves. We celebrate diversity, and we want you to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Some men wear shorts and jeans, and some wear suits and ties. Some women wear jeans and some wear dresses. Everyone fits in at FCC!

Where can I park?

We have ample parking available beside the church. You may enter the lot through entrances on Pike Street and Walnut Avenue.

What kind of music can I expect?

Our music is mostly traditional in nature, and we often sing hymns, but we also enjoy weaving in contemporary expressions of liturgy, music, and the arts in our worship. This includes, at different times, instrumental accompaniments or solos performed on brass instruments, violin, bass, flute, oboe, and guitar. Our outstanding chancel choir sings a variety of anthems, and we have many gifted vocalists who perform special music.

What does FCC offer for children?

We love our children, and we consider their presence—including their movements and voices—to be both a precious sign of God’s Kingdom in our midst and a gift to us all. God gave children extra giggles and we welcome the sounds they make. During our Sunday morning worship, there are several options for the little ones…

  • Prayground Area — This area in our sanctuary is a space for children and their families to stay together during worship. Kid-sized tables and chairs, individual coloring packets and fun activities are available along with comfortable seating for adults. We also provide individual children’s activity packets for families who would like to sit together in the main pews.

  • Nursery/Toddler Room — This room (outside of the sanctuary) is staffed by trained and completely vaccinated workers so that parents can be comfortable in worship knowing their children are well cared for. The room contains cribs for our babies and toys for our toddlers.

  • Youth Participation in Worship — Each week, children are invited to participate in worship by gathering for a brief Children’s Moment lesson (which often speaks to attendees of all ages). Children and youth comfortable with reading publicly are joyfully invited to participate by reading scripture or other parts of worship. At times, children and youth may set the communion table, play chimes or bells, sing, light candles or provide some other leadership in worship. Today’s children are our next generation of leaders, and we strive to create an environment where each child can discover their special gifts for worship.

  • Children’s Church — Each week, this is an opportunity for children ages 4 to 12 to gather with a teacher in a classroom to learn a Bible story, pray, and fellowship. Once the Children’s Moment is complete during the main worship service, the children are invited to the classroom and then are returned to the sanctuary in time to partake in the Lord’s Supper with the whole congregation.

What accommodations does FCC offer for those with disabilities?

The north door (main entrance off the parking lot) is wheelchair-accessible, and the elevator provides access to the sanctuary on the upper level or Fellowship Hall on the lower level. Our sanctuary floor is sloped, but there are level locations around the perimeter, center, and front for wheelchair placement. All pews have padded seats.

For the visually impaired, we provide a large-print version of our hymnal. The worship order, liturgy, and lyrics are projected in a large font at the front of the sanctuary.

For the hearing-impaired with a T-Coil enabled hearing aid, FCC has a hearing loop system, which is designed to work in the east and central seating areas of the sanctuary. For the best hearing loop experience, switch to the “T” position on your hearing aid when sitting in the primary seating area. Switch to “off” before leaving the area. This will insure an interference-free hearing loop experience.

If there is anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable, simply ask one of our greeters, who will do their best to assist you.
